We talk to stars Asa Buttefield, Chlöe Moretz, Helen McCroy, and Sir Ben Kingsley, as well as author Brian Selznick and screenwriter John Logan, on the red carpet at this year’s Royal Film Performance for Hugo. The film, which also stars Jude Law and Sacha Baron Cohen, is based on the best selling book by Brian Selznick and was directed by acclaimed genius Martin Scorsese.  It tells the story of Hugo Cabret, an orphaned boy living in a Paris train station who uncovers a strange mystery surrounding a broken robot and a reclusive old man.

We hear again and again from the cast about Asa Butterfield’s raw, honest performance as Hugo, which comes across spectacularly in the 3D format. The author of the novel, Brian Selznick, waxes poetic about director Martin Scorsese, his muse (French filmmaker George Méliès), and why 3D movies are the new ‘talkies.’ Teen stars Asa Butterfield, who plays the title role, and Chlöe Moretz, who plays his ‘partner in crime’ as she puts it, show their enthusiasm for their involvement in the film. Helen McCroy (Mama Jeanne) discusses the childlike quality of George Méliès’ work, which was a major influence on both the book and movie versions of Hugo. Sir Ben Kingsley, who plays Méliès himself, gushes about Asa Buttefield, and John Logan, screenwriter, happily talks about the magic of Hugo, comparing it to classics like The Wizard of Oz.
