The casting director from 1981 Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire tells Leicester Square TV’s Charlotte Silver about the challenges trying to find athletes who could act rather than actors who could run. Unfortunately, we could not persuade her to spill the beans on which actor hurled into the bushes on set. Maybe next time…
Presented by: Charlotte Silver
Camera/Post: Elizabeth Maddison
Director: Hugh Hudson
UK 2012 Re-Release Date: 13 July 2012
Plot: Based on a true story, Chariots of Fire is about two young British athletes who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics. The two runners – Harold Abrahams, a Jewish Cambridge student facing anti-semitism, and Eric Liddel, a devout Christian educated by missionaries in China, compete for completely different reasons. But both men have the same goal in mind: Olympic gold.
